Altec 808-8b and 511b horns

Hi everyone. I picked up these Altec 808-8b drivers with 511b horns over the weekend and found that one sounded better than the other. When I disassembled them I found one was missing the phase plug.
Are the phase plugs just glued in place? And since I liked the sound from the one with the phase plug, are the phase plugs available from someone? Should I replace these phrams? Any ideas for a summer project using these with 511b horns(home use)? Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,

The phase plugs are glued in position. I recently reglued mine on the very same model driver. There are a few opinions around on what the best type of glue to use is. This short thread gives some good info;Gluing tangerine phase plugs

As to where to get individual phase plugs? ... Someone else may need to offer some advice with that. (The plugs were present in my drivers, just not attached.)

Thanks lowpoke....your info was helpful. I contacted GPA for a phase plug and phrams...waiting for a reply. Ron

That's the best course of action I never seen just a phase plug for sale on eBay so GPA is your best bet there was a small format driver as parts on ebay recently Check maybe still there.
